Issue #4 : Corpus linguistics and the lexicon

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The e-journal Lexis (http://screcherche.univ-lyon3.fr/lexis) is planning to
publish its fourth issue, devoted to Corpus linguistics and the lexicon, in
September 2009.

Over the past two decades, monolingual and bilingual lexicography, as well
as lexical semantics, have been transformed by the use of electronic
corpora, and particularly by the study of co-occurrence phenomena. The
publication of dictionaries in electronic form brings new challenges of
providing fine-grained lexical description and of developing new ways of
organizing lexicographic information. For issue no. 4 of Lexis, on the
theme 'Corpus linguistics and the lexicon', papers are invited on topics
such as the following (this is a non-exhaustive list) :

- the contribution of corpus-based research to fine-grained lexical
description and to comprehensive coverage of the semantic, syntactic and
other aspects of the lexicon ;

- the impact of corpus use on the macrostructure and the microstructure of
monolingual and bilingual dictionaries ;

- the use of parallel (aligned) corpora in multilingual lexicography ;

- the use of monolingual or multilingual corpora in the analysis of the
lexicons of specialist genres ;

- the design and building of corpora for lexical-semantic research or for
lexicography ;

- the application of statistical methods to data from corpora.

Papers may describe previous work from a metalexicographic perspective or
they may describe new corpus-based work that focuses on any aspect of the
lexicon.

Manuscripts may be written in French or in English, and should be
accompanied by an abstract of up to 10 lines in French and in English, as
well as a list of the relevant key words. They should be sent to the Editor
of Lexis, Denis Jamet (lexis at univ-lyon3.fr) as email attachments (Word and
pdf), and will be refereed by two members of the international evaluation
committee. Manuscripts may be rejected, accepted subject to revision, or
accepted as such. There is no limit to the number of pages.

Deadline for sending in abstracts : October 30, 2008.
Deadline for sending in papers accepted : February 2009.
