Meeting Description:

Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics at University of Lódz is
pleased to announce the launch of a new international summer institute exploring
the central theme of Languages and Cultures in Contact and in Contrast. Please
check our website for more details.

In a series of annual events, the Summer Institute intends to begin addressing
the topics by offering to focus on a number of key issues (the list is not
exhaustive):

Overview and evaluation of existing linguistic methodologies; determining the
scope and expanding the range of research; rethinking existing methods by
focusing on case studies (Zakopane, Poland 2009);
Language teaching and learning (Université Savoie, Chambery France 2010);
Language varieties in contact;
Professional discourse across cultures and systems, etc.
Participants will have the unique opportunity to learn from world famous
scholars in a series of in-depth and hands-on classes. They will be able to
pursue their own particular interest in applied linguistics and network with
colleagues from all over the world.

The first event will take place in Zakopane (Poland's premier centre for
mountain hiking and skiing), from 7th to 12th September 2009. We are planning to
invite leading international scholars to be our guest tutors.
