Description:

Visiting Researcher Programme 2009-2010

The ESRC Centre for Research on Bilingualism in Theory and Practice at Bangor
University, in North Wales, seeks applications from researchers around the world
for its Visiting Researcher programme. The Centre has as its main focus the
promotion of research into all aspects of bilingualism, from a variety of
perspectives and in a variety of contexts. There are five research Groups in the
Centre, focusing on five strands of theoretical and practical issues related to
bilingualism. One of these Groups will act as your 'home' for your visit. You
can obtain information on these Groups and on the Centre in general from our
leaflet or at our website.

The purpose of the Visiting Researcher programme is to encourage interaction and
collaboration among researchers from outside and inside the Centre, to encourage
and foster high quality research on bilingualism, and to provide a sabbatical or
temporary 'home' for bilingualism researchers who wish to interact with other
researchers at the Centre. Visiting Researchers will be expected to be working
closely with one or more of the Groups in the Centre. Recipients of awards will
be provided with office space and will have full access to the facilities of the
Centre.

Research Visits at the Centre could last as little as a few days or as much as a
year. Applicants may apply for support to cover travel expenses to and from the
Centre and to go towards living expenses while staying in Bangor. (The Centre
will normally provide a fixed amount per month towards housing expenses)
Applications will be accepted for costs normally ranging from £1,000 to £10,000,
but awards will be allotted according to the funds available and the best fit
with the Centre goals and mission.

Interested parties should fill out the application form, outlining their
proposed plans for research and estimated costs, and attach a short c.v.
Deadline for application for a visit any time from spring 2009 through summer
2010, is December 10, 2008.

For further information, please email the Centre at dilys.hughes at bangor.ac.uk,
or write to Prof. V. Mueller Gathercole, Head, Visiting Researcher Programme,
and Co-Director, ESRC Centre for Research on Bilingualism in Theory and Practice,
Bangor University: v.c.gathercole at bangor.ac.uk.

These awards are intended as providing some support for the researcher in
question. They will not necessarily cover all living expenses, and any costs
associated with bringing family members will be the responsibility of the
Visiting Researcher.

Application Deadline: 10-Dec-2008
