Call for Papers

We would like to invite you to our International ELT Conference which will be
held on April 29-30, 2008 in Istanbul, hosted by Maltepe University, Department
of English Language Teaching. Proposals are welcome on the following topics: 
 
Teacher training and teacher development 
Curriculum implemented at Departments of English Language Teaching 
Curriculum and syllabus design and planning 
The teaching of the four skills  
The teaching of grammar  
The teaching of pronunciation  
Cultural studies and ELT 
The teaching of vocabulary  
Teaching and Learning technologies  
Approaches and methods  
Translation and English language teaching  
Corpus linguistics and English language teaching  
ESP teaching and learning 
Teaching English to young learners

Any other topic which could be of interest in the field of English language
teaching and learning  

Our keynote speakers will be from YOK (Turkish Higher Education Council) and
from abroad who have profound experience in teacher education. There will also
be invited speakers and participants from Universities, the Ministry of National
Education, school managers and heads of English Language Departments at primary
and secondary schools. 

The deadline for proposals will be January 15th, 2009. The abstracts for papers
should not exceed 400 words (min. 250), for workshops and panel discussions 700
words (min. 500). They should have up to 5 main references. Proposals will be
considered by the referee committee who will decide on the acceptance or refusal
of the contribution. We aim to let you know whether your proposal has been
accepted or refused by the beginning of March 2008.

Deutsche Morphologie im Kontrast

Wenn Dinge nur undeutlich zu erkennen sind, ist es oft von Vorteil, wenn man sie
vor einen kontrastierenden Hintergrund stellt. In diesem Sinne wollen wir in
unserer Arbeitsgruppe die Morphologie des Deutschen vor der Folie anderer
Sprachen betrachten, um dadurch ihre Spezifik besser herausarbeiten zu können.
Die Morphologie fungiert - gewissermaßen als Scharnier zwischen Phonologie und
Syntax - als zentrale Komponente der Grammatik. Dementsprechend können
Eigenschaften des morphologischen Systems massive Auswirkungen auf die
Gesamtstruktur einer Sprache haben; nicht selten werden sie sogar als Grundlage
der typologischen Einordnung einer Sprache herangezogen. In unserer Sektion
wollen wir morphologische Charakteristika des Deutschen durch die Kontrastierung
mit anderen Sprachen erhellen. Als mögliche Themenfelder können dabei dienen:

- Grammatische Kategorien: Ausdruck von z.B. Zeitlichkeit (Tempus), Modalität
(Modus), Aktantenrelation (Kasus), Genus oder Definitheit durch flexivische oder
durch andere Mittel? 
- Fusionsgrad: syntagmatische Verdichtung von Morphologie, Überlagerung von -
welchen? - Kategorien, Redundanzphänomene/Kongruenz 
- Allomorphie: für welche Kategorien werden Allomorphe ausgebildet, wie formal
unterschiedlich sind diese Allomorphe, auf welcher Ebene werden sie  gesteuert? 
- Flexion: Komplexität, Regularität, Interdependenz, Flexionsklassensysteme,
syntaktische Effekte usw. 
- Wortbildung: Typen, Abbildung syntaktischer Relationen usw. 

Interessante Fragestellungen können sich sowohl durch den Vergleich genealogisch
und/oder typologisch nah verwandter Sprachen als auch durch die kontrastive
Heranziehung fernerer Sprachen ergeben. Auch diachrone Ansätze (zu
Divergenzentwicklungen nah verwandter Sprachen ebenso wie zu
Konvergenzentwicklungen benachbarter Sprachen) können fruchtbar gemacht werden.
