Language and History, Linguistics and Historiography
April 1st - April 4th, 2009

What are the barriers to collaboration between history and linguistics and how
do we overcome them?

Interdisciplinary research has been one of the buzzwords in academic research
for a number of years, yet - at least in the humanities - it appears that little
actual progress has been made with regard to bringing different disciplines, e.
g. social historians and sociolinguists together to jointly tackle
methodological, programmatic, and practical problems. This conference seeks to
address key problems related to the nature of interdisciplinary research in
sociolinguistics and social history. Papers are invited to present and discuss
current research problems and findings on:

- Social/linguistic history from below: the shift towards a focus on the
language and living conditions of the underprivileged 
- Historians' view of language, linguists' view of history: the necessity of an
understanding of the other discipline to pursue research in one's own  
- Identity formation and social conflicts: the use of language as a social tool
in political and social conflicts 
- Communicative spaces: the use and restriction of communication in geographical
and imagined spaces
- Historical semantics: the changes in the meaning and significance of words and
concepts 
- Historical discourse analysis and pragmatics: the changes in ways people
speak, act, and communicate
- Corpora, editorial practice, data interpretation, translation: methodological
problems associated with investigating social history and historical language(s)

Joint presentations by historians and linguists are particularly encouraged.
There will be a number of small bursaries for postgraduates to help with costs.

Du 1er au 4 septembre 2009, l'Université de Lausanne accueillera la troisième
édition du colloque international « Le français parlé dans les medias ».
Ce colloque sera  l'occasion d'échanges interdisciplinaires centrés sur
l'analyse des pratiques discursives orales des médias et de leurs enjeux
politiques. Il s'adresse en priorité aux chercheurs en sciences du langage et en
sciences de l'information et de la communication intéressés au fonctionnement
des discours oraux médiatiques. 

Call for Papers 

Après Stockholm (2005) et Québec (2007), l'Université de Lausanne accueillera la
troisième édition du colloque international « Le français parlé dans les medias
» du 1er au 4 septembre 2009.

Comme pour les éditions précédentes, le colloque de Lausanne sera  l'occasion
d'échanges interdisciplinaires centrés sur l'analyse des pratiques discursives
orales des médias et de leurs enjeux sociaux.  

Le colloque s'adresse ainsi en priorité aux chercheurs en sciences du langage et
en sciences de l'information et de la communication intéressés au fonctionnement
des discours oraux médiatiques.  

S'il est question de l'oralité des médias sous toutes ses formes (quel que soit
le média : de l'oral à la radio et la télévision au style « oralisé » de
l'écriture journalistique dans la presse et sur internet ; ainsi que la
diversité des ancrages de l'oral médiatique dans des pratiques particulières :
l'information, le divertissement, la publicité), le colloque de Lausanne aura
pour thème plus spécifique : Les médias et le politique.

Les axes suivants seront privilégiés:
axe 1: aspects interactionnels des discours politico-médiatiques (analyse de la
gestion interactive de la parole, analyse de la dimension multimodale de la
communication, etc.) ;      
axe 2: aspects génériques des discours politico-médiatiques (spécification et
problématisation des genres médiatiques et politiques, analyse contrastive des
genres, etc.) ;      
axe 3: aspects génétiques des discours politico-médiatiques (analyse des moments
interactionnels et états successifs de la constitution des discours, approches
historicisantes des discours, etc.) ;      
axe 4: aspects interculturels des discours politico-médiatiques (manifestation
de la globalisation dans les discours, approches contrastives de discours, etc.)
;       
axe 5: aspects stratégiques des discours politico-médiatiques (argumentation,
narration, appels à l'émotion, négociations identitaires des faces et des
places, etc.) ;      
axe 6: théories et méthodes d'analyse des discours politico-médiatiques (apports
et limites des différents paradigmes, constitution et traitement des corpus,
spécification de catégories interdisciplinaires, etc.)  

Les participants ont la possibilité de soumettre deux types de contribution: une
communication individuelle ou un panel (session thématique comprenant 3 exposés
et une période de discussion).

Dates importantes: 1er décembre 2008 (date limite pour la soumission d'un panel)
et 1er janvier 2009 (date limite pour la soumission d'une communication
individuelle).
