Meeting Description: 

One of the fundamental premises of this conference is the belief that language
is a vehicle of contact between peoples, as well as an instrument through which
hybridity and plurality are fostered. According to Todorov's intercultural
framework (1986), language promotes interaction with the Other, but uses the
Self as a point of departure. From this meeting between the Self and the Other,
the Self can return enriched or confused, transformed or disorientated,
spellbound or challenged. Indeed, a plurality of languages is increasingly
becoming the reflection of the cultural complexity of our times, whose task is
to continue to look for new channels of expression for the relationship between
the Self and the Other.

The conference aims at examining two main trajectories of intercultural
mediation: firstly, the theoretical bases of the concept of mediation, and,
secondly, mediating as a profession.
