Description:

The Department of English of the College of Staten Island, a senior college
of the City University of New York, seeks candidates for an anticipated
tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Linguistics beginning
September 2009.  

Required: PhD in Linguistics. We are particularly interested in candidates
with a strong record of teaching and an active publishing agenda. 
Applicants must have competence in at least one of the following areas:
phonetics/phonology, history of English, language change.  Applicants with
an ability to teach composition and/or ESL will be preferred.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate linguistics courses for
majors; developing undergraduate and graduate courses in area of
specialization; participating actively in the life of the department and
performing department and college service; and engaging in an active and
productive research and publishing agenda. Applicants with an ability to
teach composition and/or ESL will be preferred.

Review of applications will begin on or about November 15, 2008.  Salary
range: $52,144 - $67,092, commensurate with experience.

a writing sample (not to exceed 40 pages), and one syllabus or course
proposal related to area of specialization to the application address
