Description:

The Department of Linguistics at The University of Texas at Austin invites
applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to begin Fall 2009.
Position funding is pending budgetary approval. Our primary needs lie in
the three following areas of research and teaching: 1) studies of language
variation or language change, whether from a socio-cultural or historical
perspective, 2) pragmatics and discourse structure, and 3)
psycholinguistics, with a focus either on first language acquisition or on
adult processing. Regardless of research area, the successful candidate
will show evidence of having developed an empirically-rigorous program of
research that addresses issues of theoretical import.

Duties include (a) Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in area of
specialization; (b) Directing thesis and dissertation research; (c)
Conducting original research and publication; (d) Advising undergraduate
and graduate students; and (e) Performing departmental, college, and
institutional service.

Requirements include: (a) Ph.D. awarded no later than August 20, 2009; (b)
Excellence or potential for excellence as a teacher, research, advisor, and
leader; and (c) A strong commitment to working with others in the department.
