Description:

At the chair of General and Comparative Linguistics of the University of
Regensburg, the position of a 'wissenschaftlicher Assistent' with
specialties in linguistic typology and language documentation has to be
filled by October, 10 2009. This position is the German equivalent to
assistant professor, but lacks a tenure track. Payment will be according to
the German pay scale (A13). The duration is maximally six years. However,
if the future appointee will complete the Habilitation (a kind of second
Ph.D. thesis) within this time frame, there is a chance for another four
years employment as 'Oberassistent' (A14) depending on the financial
resources of the University of Regensburg. The Ph.D. degree is required
before taking up the appointment. 

The main fields of teaching and research of the successful candidate are
linguistic typology and language documentation. Teaching load is five hours
per semester contributing to the B.A. program 'General and Comparative
Linguistics' and the M.A. program, which is planned to be installed in the
near future. A good working command of German is required. The successful
candidate is expected to participate in the 'Linguistic Forum' of the
faculty and the various administrative tasks of the chair.
