Description:

Linguistic Data Consortium at the University of Pennsylvania has an
immediate opening for a full-time programmer analyst to support our rapidly
growing linguistic resource creation projects, including the DARPA Machine
Reading program.

Programmer Analyst (#090727106)

Duties: This position will support multiple, concurrent language resource
creation projects by providing programming, technical and research support
in a lead capacity.  Working with internal and external stakeholders, the
position will develop achievable technical roadmaps for each project and
will oversee their execution.

Tasks may include:

-design and develop flexible user interfaces for manual annotation of
linguistic data
-prepare linguistic resources for annotation, including indexing and format
normalization
-negotiate project technical specifications with key internal and external
stakeholders
-develop data formats to support collection and annotation tasks
-research, evaluate and integrate third-party software into LDC's data
production pipeline
-perform statistical analysis of linguistic data
-train and supervise full-time or part-time technical staff
-assist with corpus publication including data validation and sanity checks
-provide technical support to linguistic annotators and other project staff
-represent technical aspects of LDC's linguistic resource creation efforts
at workshops and in publications, as required

Minimum Qualifications: BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent, MA/MS
preferred; at least 2 years of related experience or an equivalent
combination of education and experience; strong programming skills in at
least two of the following programming languages: Python, C++, Java and
Perl; solid UNIX and Windows skills; solid knowledge of Unicode, XML and
relational databases; ability to work independently as well as within a
team; good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to
communicate with both technical and non-technical audience; attention to
detail; effective decision making and a strong sense of personal
accountability coupled with appropriate use of delegation; ability to
juggle multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and manage time
effectively in deadline driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in creating web applications, search
engine indexing, and GUI programming; education or research experience in
Linguistics, Computational Linguistics or Human Language Technologies;
proven track record in successful personnel management including
development of junior staff.
