Position: Linguist - Cantonese and Mandarin

The R&D team is highly international and dynamic, with world-class
expertise in software engineering, signal processing and linguistics. We
are looking to strengthen the team with a language specialist with the
responsibility of improving and further develop our suite of Asian
languages. Main focus will be on Cantonese and Mandarin, and our candidate
should therefore be a native speaker of Cantonese, also fluent in Mandarin.
The successful candidate will be experienced with all aspects of TTS unit
selection development in both these languages, backed up by solid
linguistic knowledge. You will also be experienced in supervising language
development projects, managing resources and time planning.

Tasks / Responsibilities:
-improving text analysis packages
-lexicon corrections
-text pre-processing corrections and additions
-phonological and morphological rule updates
-syntactical and prosodical rule updates
-improving signal generation packages
-analyzing and identifying problem units in the speech synthesis module
-setting up tools to replace or improve problem units
-managing language package update/development projects
-recruiting temporary language specialists
-supervision of development process, including:
-full text analysis
-speaker selection and evaluation
-recordings
-corpus creation
-planning time and resources
-reintegrating results and version control
-responding to specific customer project needs

Qualifications and Expert Knowledge:
-Masters degree in linguistics
-2+ years industry experience in text-to-speech technology (both Unit
Selection and HMM synthesis)
-Experience with version control system SVN
-Experience with issue tracking system Trac
-Expert knowledge of DCG grammars
-Expert knowledge of two-level morphology
-Experience with writing finite-state transduction rules for phonology
-Experience with Linux tools
-Experience in supervising language development projects
-Experience in recordings for unit selection databases


Personal Requirements:
-Native speaker of Cantonese
-Fluent in Mandarin and English
-Proficient in German, additional languages are a strong plus
-Ability to quickly understand complex systems and processes 
-Hands-on, team player, self-starter and analytic
-Profound interest in speech technology and natural language processing
-High quality standards
-Willingness to relocate to Zurich, Switzerland
