Meeting Description: 

The Fourth Brno Conference on Linguistics Studies in English Interpretation of
Meaning in Spoken and Written Discourse will be held in Brno on 16-17 September
2010. The host institution will again be the Department of English Language and
Literature at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University. 

The Fourth Brno Conference focuses on interpretation of meaning in spoken and
written discourse. While the thematic scope of the contributions is expected to
be very wide, we particularly welcome topics exploring aspect of discourse
coherence, cohesion relations, pragmatic strategies in the interpretation of
discourse, dialogic aspects of written and spoken interaction, genre-specific
strategies for the negotiation of meaning in spoken and written discourse. 

The Conference will take place at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University,
Brno. A detailed programme of the two-day conference will be sent after the
submission of proposals. 

We are pleased to announce that the following keynote speakers have confirmed
their participation at the Conference:

Prof. Henry Widdowson, University of Vienna
Prof. Laslo Komlosi, University of Pécs

There will be a conference fee of CZK 1000 and participants must pay their own
travel and accommodation costs. Accommodation will be arranged, if required. We
can provide accommodation for any of the nights 15-16, 16-17 and 17-18 September
at the university hotel. The price of a double room is CZK 980; when occupied by
a single person the price of the double room is CZK 790. Coffee and light
refreshments as well as a small reception on 16th September will be provided by
the host institution. 

If you wish to attend the conference, please complete the Registration Form (if
not accessible please contact us) and return it by 30 April 2010. If you would
like to offer a contribution, please indicate the title of your contribution on
the Registration Form. The abstracts should be sent by e-mail
(malaskom at gmail.com) by 15 June 2010.
