The aim of the conference 'Formal Semantics and Pragmatics: Discourse, Context,
and Models' is to stimulate exchange among linguists and philosophers about
issues in formal semantics and pragmatics and how they bear on foundational
issues in linguistic theory, the philosophy of language and cognition.

Call for Papers

A limited number of papers will be selected for presentation at the symposium
and considered for inclusion in the proceedings in the Baltic International
Yearbook of Cognition, Logic and Communication

Time allowed for contributed presentations is 40 minutes including discussion.
Submitted papers should have a maximum of 3000 words and should be accompanied
by a 200 word abstract.

Possible topics include (but are not limited to):

Semantic and Pragmatic Theory
Model-theoretic semantics; The syntax-semantics-pragmatics interfaces; The
semantics and pragmatics of subsentential utterances; The semantics and
pragmatics of discourse; Theories of quotation; Reference and quantification;
Other topics central to semantics and pragmatics and the interfaces, such as focus;
questions and other non-declaratives; propositional attitudes; events and the
semantics of verbs; deixis and anaphora; generics; connectivity effects

Foundational Issues
Compositionality; Contextualism and the division of labor between semantics and
pragmatics; Representational and non-representational techniques in semantic
theory; Mental models; The psychological reality of semantics; How work in
linguistics bears on work in philosophy of language and vice versa

All submissions should be prepared for blind review, and should be sent
electronically in Word format to: jurgis.skilters at lu.lv or jurgisskilters at gmail.com

Deadline for submission is December 31, 2009. Authors will be notified shortly
thereafter.
