Created in 1998, the Rencontres Jeunes Chercheurs (RJC) of the Doctoral 
School « Langage et langues » (ED 268, Sorbonne Nouvelle University - Paris 3)
is an opportunity for junior researchers preparing for a Master's degree or a
Doctorate, but also for post-doctorates, to present their work in paper or
poster sessions.

Créées en 1998, les Rencontres Jeunes Chercheurs de l'Ecole Doctorale «Langage
et langues» (ED 268, Université Paris III) offrent la possibilité aux jeunes
chercheurs inscrits en Master Recherche ou en Doctorat de présenter leurs travaux. 

Call for Papers

This year, for the 13th edition of the RJC, the theme will be :  

Language in use
The notion of language in use in linguistics is undoubtedly located at the 
intersection of what F. de Saussure distinguished by terms Langue and Parole.
Since the use of the language represents both the way speakers use the language
as a means of communication and particular utterances of various kinds, it is
relevant to study language practice of speakers who come from the same language
community. To this notion of use, the notion of norm is frequently associated.
It is the norm, commonly found in grammar books, that leads to the definition of
variation.

The scientists are to ask questions like: What is the language in use of various
speakers? Is there a development in the language in use? What influences the
language in use of interlocutors? Is it the sociocultural environment and
political factors? Which are the real world communicative functions? Which are
noticeable interferences between the norm and its variations? How do children
acquire language in use? 

This topic can be treated differently in various linguistic fields: language
acquisition, text analysis, linguistic methodology, historical linguistics,
morpho-syntax, phonetics, semantics, socio-linguistics, etc.

Submission
Proposals for oral presentations should be typed in Times New Roman 12, simple
spacing, in the form of a summary of 1000 words at most (including references)
and the proposals for posters in the form of a summary of 500 words (including
references). In the case of phonetic transcriptions, please use the SILDoulos
font http://www.sil.org/computing/catalog/show_software.asp?id=91 Propositions
are to be sent to the Organization Committee by e-mail
(rjc.ed268.2010 at gmail.com), in the .rtf format. They should be sent twice:

- The first one will be named "anon_NAME_rjc2010rtf" (for example: 
anon_SMITH_rjc2010.rtf) and will contain: title, fields of research, 5 keywords,
a summary.

- The second named "NAME_rjc2010.rtf " (for example  SMITH_rjc2010.rtf) will
contain the following information, besides the previous ones : personal data
(last name, first name, e-mail and personal postal address), level of studies
(clarify the number of years for the doctorate), research supervizor(s). 

Only one submission will be examined for each participant

The languages of oral presentations and posters will be in English or French. 

The duration of oral presentations will be 20 minutes + 10 minutes for 
questions. Before the display of posters, each author will be invited to 
present their work in a short oral presentation (5 min.). 

Calendar
February 8, 2010 : Deadline for the submission of abstracts for oral
presentations (1,000 words) and of posters (500 words).
Mid-April, 2010 : Answer from the Organization Committee after examination by
the Selected Scientific Committee.
June 3- June 4, 2010 : Rencontres Jeunes Chercheurs 2010.

Cette année, le thème sera :

Les Usages de la Langue

La notion d'usage en Sciences du langage se situe sans doute à l'intersection de
ce que F. de Saussure distinguait sous les noms de Langue et Parole. En
considérant que les usages de la langue correspondent à la manière dont les
locuteurs utilisent la langue comme outil de communication et aux différentes
productions verbales des locuteurs, on pourra alors s'intéresser aux pratiques
langagières de locuteurs issus d'une même communauté linguistique. A cette idée
d'usage, on associe fréquemment la notion de norme telle qu'on la retrouve dans
les grammaires et à partir de laquelle la notion de variation se définit.

Les chercheurs sont invités à se poser diverses questions : quelles sont les 
pratiques langagières des locuteurs? est-il possible d'observer une évolution de
ces pratiques? quelle est l'influence de l'environnement (socioculturel,
politique?) sur le langage d'un interlocuteur ou d'un locuteur? quels sont les
genres de discours observables? quelles sont les relations existantes entre la
norme et les variations du langage ? comment les usages du langage sont acquis
par l'enfant? etc.

Ce thème pourra être abordé selon les différentes disciplines des Sciences du
langage : acquisition du langage, analyse du discours, didactique des langues,
linguistique historique morpho-syntaxe, phonétique, sémantique, 
sociolinguistique, etc.

Calendrier
- 8 février 2010 : Date limite d'envoi des propositions de communication orale 
(1000 mots) et de poster (500 mots).
- Mi-avril 2010 : Réponse du Comité d'Organisation après examen par le Comité de
lecture. 
- 3 et 4 juin 2010 : Journées des RJC ED 268. 

Soumission
Les propositions de communication orale se feront en police Times New Roman 12,
interligne simple, sous forme d'un résumé de 1000 mots au maximum (références
incluses) et les propositions de poster sous forme d'un résumé de 500 mots au
maximum (références incluses). Dans le cas de transcriptions phonétiques,
veuillez utiliser la police SILDoulos téléchargeable sur 
http://www.sil.org/computing/catalog/show_software.asp?id=91.

Les propositions sont à envoyer au Comité d'Organisation par courriel 
(rjc.ed268.2010 at gmail.com) en double exemplaire au format .rtf : le premier 
sera nommé « anon_nom-de-l-auteur_rjc2010.rtf » (par exemple « 
anon_DUPONT_rjc2010.rtf ») et contiendra :

Le titre
5 mots-clés
La discipline
Le résumé

Le second  nommé  « nom-de-l-auteur_rjc2010.rtf » (par exemple « 
DUPONT_rjc2010.rtf ») devra comporter les informations suivantes, en plus des
précédentes : 

Les coordonnées (nom, prénom, courriel et adresse postale) 
L'affiliation et le niveau d'études (préciser le nombre d'années pour le 
doctorat) Le directeur de recherche

Une seule soumission par participant sera examinée

Les communications orales et les posters pourront se faire en anglais ou en 
français. La durée de la communication est fixée à 20 minutes + 10 minutes de
discussion.
