Description:
Macquarie University is a member of a consortium of Australian universities
that has been awarded a prestigious A$3.4M ARC/NHMRC 'Thinking Systems'
grant to develop a 'thinking head' - a breakthrough system that can learn
from humans and will lead to advances in everything from hearing aids to
mobile phones and video games. The consortium, led by the University of
Western Sydney, also includes Flinders University and the University of
Canberra, with international input from the Technical University of Denmark
and the University of Berlin.
The successful applicant will be responsible for spoken language utterance
interpretation aspects of the project at Macquarie's Centre for Language
Technology, and will contribute to the development of the general framework
and the design, implementation and integration of various parts of the
project. Reporting to Professor Robert Dale, you will work closely with the
interdisciplinary team of engineers, computer scientists and psychologists
spread across the project sites. Applicants should indicate the level at

The position is available on a full-time (fixed-term) basis for a period of
two years and subject to probationary conditions. Selection criteria must
be addressed in the application.
Package (Level A): From $59,694 pa, including base salary from $50,442 to
$68,224 pa, 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading. An
appointee with a Ph.D. will be appointed to a minimum of Step 6 on the
salary scale, currently $63,601 pa.
Package (Level B): From $84,949 pa, including base salary $71,783 to
$85,121 pa, 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
