Description:

Ph.D. position 'Computational Linguistic Analysis of Software Artefacts' at the
Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany

The Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab (Technical University of
Darmstadt, Germany) has an immediate opening for a Ph.D. student to carry out
research in the area of computational linguistics targeted at software artefacts
as an application domain. The results of the software artefact analysis are
embedded into an application context, such as software search in online
repositories modeled as the information retrieval process. The student will join
the team of an ongoing research project as a Research Assistant.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in computer science and/or
computational linguistics. Previous work experience with one of the themes
mentioned above is a definite asset (M.Sc., or equivalent), but is not an
absolute requirement. A keen interest in the topic and the will to pursue a
doctoral degree in Natural Language Processing at the Computer Science
Department of the Technical University of Darmstadt are expected.

The focus of UKP Lab is on semantic information management, computational
analysis of user generated content, and applied lexical semantic processing. The
group features a dynamic work environment, a highly motivated and integrated
research team, a substantial industrial cooperation network, and was
distinguished by several research awards for fundamental research since its
establishment in summer 2006. Darmstadt s located in the southern part of the
Rhine Main Area, which hosts one of the strongest IT-Clusters in Germany. The
city has a preferable location in the center of Germany: not even half an hour
away from the Rhine-Main International Airport in Frankfurt.

Interested candidates are invited to send their application (CV, list of
publications, statement of research interests and the names of three referees)
to the address provided below (preferably by email: gurevych (at) tk (dot)
informatik (dot) tu-darmstadt (dot) de).

Application Deadline: 20-Jan-2009
