The Society of Linguistic Undergraduate Students (SLUGS) at the University of
Toronto is hosting it's second annual undergraduate research conference March
27-29, 2009. 

Call for Papers

The Toronto Undergraduate Linguistics Conference (TULCon) is a great opportunity
to meet your peers in the linguistics world, share your work, and learn; and we
invite your submissions.  Undergraduate students from any university may submit
an abstract of 500 words on any topic in linguistics.  Abstracts should be
approximately 500 words in length (not including references), can be about any
topic relating to linguistics, and can also be works in progress.  Speakers will
have the opportunity to speak for 20 minutes with 5 minutes for questions
following.  In your submission, please indicate whether you would like to
present a talk or a poster during our poster session.
 
Submissions should be sent as pdf or Microsoft Word (.doc, NOT .docx)
attachments to slugs.tulcon at gmail.com by February 13, 2009.  Also, keep an eye
out for announcements about registration coming up in the near future!  If you

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Arizona is proud to announce
a special conference, funded by the National Science Foundation*, on Formal
Approaches to Celtic Linguistics. 

Call for Papers

Formal Approaches to Celtic Linguistics

The focus of this conference is on modern theoretical approaches to the Celtic
languages, with an emphasis on the following questions:
i) How does data from the Celtic languages, with their unique typological
properties, inform formal theories of grammar? What challenges does this data
pose to current understanding and how should theories of grammar be modified to
deal with the data from Celtic languages?
ii) How do current advances in formal theories improve our understanding of the
grammar of Celtic languages?
iii)  How can formal theoretical linguistics inform the documentation of the
endangered Celtic languages?

The conference will be accompanied by a one-week for-credit Mini-course for
graduate and undergraduate students interested in pursuing Celtic Linguistics
(which runs March 23-29, 2009). Details of this mini-course will be made in a
separate announcement.  

Abstracts related to the conference theme are invited for a limited number of 45
minute talks (35 minutes for talk + 10 for discussion).
