Meeting Description:

We are happy to announce a two-day workshop to be held at the University of
Stuttgart, July 6th/7th, 2009, dealing with the topic 'Linguistics of Vietnamese'. 

Call for Papers

We invite abstracts (PDF, maximum length 1 page A4/Letter, including examples
and references) dealing with any field of Vietnamese grammar. Slots for
individual speakers will be 45 minutes including discussion.

While it is our aim to provide reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs
for all accepted speakers, we are at the present point unable to make any clear
predictions as to whether we will be able to secure enough funding.
The decisions concerning funding will be finalized by mid-April.

Notification of acceptance: February 16th, 2009
Workshop: July 6th/7th, 2009

Meeting Description:

The 45th Annual Meeting of the Chicago Linguistic Society will be held April
16-18, 2009 at the University of Chicago.  The theme of this year's conference
is 'Locality in Language.'  The conference will include a general session as
well as a parasession devoted to the theme.

We welcome papers from all major linguistic subfields and frameworks as well as
from related cross-disciplinary areas.  Papers relating to the theme will be
given preference.

Parasession: Locality in Language

Invited Speakers:
Kyle Johnson - University of Massachusetts
Ivan Sag - Stanford University
Rachel Walker - University of Southern California

The panels in this parasession will explore issues of locality in various areas
of linguistics, including but not limited to phonology, syntax, semantics, and
processing.

Presentation Format:
Each talk will be given 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for
questions. Presented papers will be published in the CLS Proceedings. 

Submission Guidelines:
Anyone may submit one abstract as the sole author and a second as co-author, or
two as co-author. All abstracts must be submitted online at:
http://clml.uchicago.edu/cls45/

Abstracts should conform to the following specifications: 
- PDF format, with filename "Lastname - Paper Title" (e.g., Asimov - The
Morphophonemics of Robojibwe.pdf). 
- 12-point font, 1-inch margins. 
- Include title and keywords (i.e., CLS session title, language, language
family, linguistics subfield). 
- Abstract should be no more than 500 words in length. Data, keywords, and
references are not included in the final count, but please interleave data with
the main body of the abstract if possible.  Total abstract (including data and
references) should not exceed 2 pages. 
- Author name(s) should not appear on the abstract! Only in the filename. 

Please note that abstracts submitted to CLS 45 will be evaluated under a
two-tiered review system involving both external and internal reviewers. 

Deadline:
All abstracts must be submitted by 11:59 PM CST on Friday, January 16, 2009. The
authors will be notified of acceptance decisions by late February 2009.
