Description:

The PwC Center for Advanced Research (CAR) seeks an outstanding research
programmer with extensive experience in text mining, summarization and
feature extraction for a groundbreaking R&D project. CAR is a technology
research and development organization charged with creating competitive
advantage for PricewaterhouseCoopers by applying advanced technology and
thinking to important practice problems. Located in the heart of Silicon
Valley in the San Jose office, CAR thrives in a unique, collaborative, high
performance environment with researchers, scientists and subject matter
experts from all over the globe. We recruit self-motivated people who have
a passion for innovation and changing the established order.  

The successful candidate will develop powerful, scalable, and easy to use
tools to extract features, topics and summaries from text documents. The
tools will be embedded in a predictive data analysis application to be used
by PwC personnel. The creativity and innovation of the new team-member will
be central to the creation of a successful data analysis and prediction
product.

Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and manage text mining, text summarization and feature
extraction tools
- Develop and deliver long-term vision and architecture for text mining,
summarization and feature extraction technologies and standards for the
project; coordinate developments with research management and stakeholders
- Work with the team to elicit, define, and refine requirements 
- Design, develop, and test scalable Java applications
- Attend and contribute to design review and code inspections
- Interact with end users to validate and evaluate software
- Review and contribute to system documentation

Requirements:
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, or related field with at least 3
years of hands-on professional software development experience. 
- Experience with text and data mining, text summarization, information
retrieval, feature extraction, data modeling tools and technologies.
- Experience with the development and documentation of real-world
applications. 
- Implementation experience in Java/J2EE, preferably on IBM WebSphere 
- Willingness to follow group coding standards and design
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills

Highly Desirable to have: 
- Exposure to Social Network Analysis and Machine Learning techniques
- Experience with Computational Linguistics Technologies
- Experience with Adobe Flex
- Experience with Database Technologies (Oracle, Lotus Notes, Trillium,
Informatica)
- Exposure to .NET technologies
- Exposure to Agile Software Development
- Ability to function independently and as part of a team under aggressive
deadlines in a fast-paced environment, convey a strong professional image,
exhibit interest and positive attitude toward all assigned work, and strive
for continued improvement. The successful candidate will enjoy the risk and
opportunity of advanced technology development.

The position is based in San Jose, CA.
