Meeting Description: 

During the summer of 2009, there will be a two week school in Accra, Ghana
that focuses on the study of African languages and linguistic theory. 

This school aims at offering students the possibility of becoming familiar with
new advances in linguistic description and theory. The school will be held in
Accra, Ghana and will center around four major linguistic domains: Syntax,
Phonology, Semantics, and Language Contact.

Faculty: The faculty consists of both senior and junior scholars, including the
following: 

Enoch O. Aboh (Univ. of Amsterdam), syntax
George Akanlig-Pare (Univ. of Ghana), phonology
Akin Akinlabi (Rutgers Univ.), phonology
Evershed K. Amuzu (Univ. of Ghana), languages in contact
Chris Collins (New York University), syntax, field methods
Ana Deumert (University of Cape Town), languages in contact
Hilda Koopman (UCLA), syntax
Jean Lowenstamm (Paris VII), phonology
Violeta Vázquez-Rojas Maldonado (New York University), semantics
Pieter Muysken (Radboud University Nijmegen), languages in contact
John Victor Singler (New York University), languages in contact
Eno-Abasi Urua (University of Uyo, Nigeria), phonology
Malte Zimmermann (University Potsdam), semantics

Eligibility: This program is open to all students interested in linguistics,
including syntax, phonology, morphology, semantics and languages in contact.

Admissions: Students should fill out the application form posted
on the website. There is no application fee. The completed form 
should be sent to africanlinguisticsschool at gmail.com

Application Deadline: April 15, 2009.  

Courses: There will be introductory courses and advanced seminars. There will
also be a field methods course where we look into an endangered and/or a less
studied African language.

Location: NYU-in-Ghana Academic Centre, Labone, Accra, Ghana.

Costs: The school is free. There is no tuition or fees charged. Lodging will be
covered by the school. Students traveling within Africa will be eligible
for a limited number of travel grants.

Dates: Monday, July 27 - Friday, August 7, 2009
Arrival Date: Sunday, July 26
Departure Date: Saturday, August 8
