Description:

Starting February 1, 2010, the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics
(LUCL) at Leiden University has a full time position available for an
Assistant Professor (Universitair Docent) In Spanish linguistics and
language acquisition, with special attention for Spanish language variation
in Latin America. The vacancy number is 9-120.                   

Tasks
-teaching and developing courses in Latin American linguistics and Spanish
language in the department Languages and Cultures of Latin America.
-Participation in developing the linguistics curriculum of LUCL, and
implementation of innovative concepts for language teaching.
-Research in Latin American linguistics and supervision of BA, MA and PhD
students as well as Postdocs.
-Participation in ongoing research at LUCL, acquisition of research monies
at the national and European level.
-Managerial and organizational responsibilities inside and outside of the
department (Languages and Cultures of Latin America) for Latin American
linguistics and Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese language teaching. 
       
Requirements
-Experience with teaching Latin American linguistics and Spanish language
acquisition.
-Proven didactic qualities (teaching evaluations)
-An interest in and preferably experience with research-driven teaching. 
-A PhD in Latin American linguistics. 
-An active research profile that fits in with ongoing research at LUCL.
-research experience in the study of Spanish language variation in Latin
America.
-near native speaker of Spanish, knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese is a plus.
-non Dutch nationals are expected to learn Dutch within two years after
their appointment.

The succesful candidate will closely collaborate with other members of LUCL
and especially with those members of the department Languages and Cultures
of Latin America who are involved in language teaching. The position is for
1.0 fte as Universitair Docent 2 for 2 years, with the possibility of
tenure. The salary depends on qualifications and experience and is at least
 € 2379 en at most € 4374 before taxes per month.  Additional information
