We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Dear all,

I am looking for languages that exhibit the spatial equivalent of DCM:
languages that can leave out spatial case marking on nouns that are
inherently/contextually spatial already.

I know only 3 languages that do. Goal marking on place names is dropped in
Nepali and Gujarati (Kittila 2008) and in Tariana spatial marking can be
omitted if the spatial role of the noun is contextually clear (Aikhenvald
2003).

The result of this case dropping should be a zero marker, not a light
version of spatial case or a direct use of the spatial case without a
bridging morpheme (as in Aristar 96/97).

Does anyone know examples of such languages?

Many thanks in advance!
