The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow
on the NWO-funded research project 'The nature of evidentiality'. This
research project, carried out at Leiden University under the direction of
Professor Johan Rooryck and Professor Willem Adelaar, investigates the
theoretical status and the terminological basis of evidentiality systems.
The project aims at bridging the gap between South American evidential
markers and Romance and Germanic forms of evidentiality.

More information can be found on the project's webpage:
http://www.hum.leiden.edu/lucl/research/research-projects/nature-of-evidentiality.html

The position in this project is for a three-year period (part-time, 0.6
fte), starting with September 2009. The Postdoc project 'Unveiling the
network of evidentials: Terminology, theory, and typology ', aims at giving
the notion of evidentiality a firm theoretical and terminological footing.
It will be an inquiry into the terminological and criterial basis of
evidential descriptors, the relationships between evidential categories,
sentence types, and other linguistic categories. The Postdoctoral fellow
should develop an overarching terminology, typology and theory that will
relate evidential markers and other linguistic forms of evidentiality (e.g.
parentheticals).

Requirements
- applicants must hold a doctoral degree in linguistics (completed by the
start of the appointment) with an excellent doctoral dissertation in
morphology, semantics, syntax, or typology
- they have a proven strong interest in relating intricate language data
- an ability to work independently, but in close collaboration with the
other team members (two Ph.D. students) and the project supervisors
- they have good writing skills and are fluent in English

Applications must contain
- a cover letter (in Dutch or English) indicating research interests
- a curriculum vitae (including list of publications)
- a list of three referees (that includes their email and postal addresses
and telephone numbers)
- two sample publications

Conditions of Employment
Employment conditions (salary, benefits, etc.) are in accordance with the
Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. Maximum salary amount
in Euros a month: 4374 (onderzoeker 3). Employment basis: temporary for
specified period
