Dear Colleagues,

We (Xiaowei Zhao, University of Richmond; and Ping Li, Pennsylvania State
University) have just developed an online database of phonological
representation for Mandarin Chinese monosyllables. This system builds on
the idea of slot-based syllabic template, as adopted by PatPho (A
phonological pattern generator for neural networks, see Li & MacWhinney,
2002). We hope that the database can provide psycholinguists and
connectionnists an easily accessible interface of Mandarin Chinese
characters' phonological representation. This representation system can be
used for a variety of purposes, in particular, connectionist language
modeling, and more generally, the study of Chinese phonology. It is also
our hope that scientists working in the field of child language development
(monolingual or multilingual with Chinese) can find the usfulness of this
system in their studies. A paper described this system will be published on
Behavior Research Methods soon.

If you are interested in this database, please go to:

http://cogsci.richmond.edu/Mandarin_patpho.php

to find the online interactive querying system of it.

Your comments and suggestions on the database are extremely welcome!

Many thanks!

Best wishes,
Xiaowei Zhao, Ph.D.
