ESRC Postdoctoral Research Assistant/Associate: "Timing in Accents of English"

The Department of English Language at the University of Glasgow invites
applications for a postdoctoral position in this exciting two-year
ESRC-funded project, directed by Dr Rachel Smith, commencing August 2009.

This new project focuses on variation in speech timing patterns in accents
of English. It has two goals: 1) to explore how accents differ in the
timing patterns that they permit in particular word shapes and larger
prosodic structures; and 2), to investigate the role that these differences
play in speech comprehension and in the way spoken interaction unfolds
among speakers of different dialects. 

The successful appointee will contribute to the design, running, and
analysis of speech production and perception experiments, and as an author
to the project's outcomes. 

Salary: £25,623-£28,839 or £31,513 - £35,469 per annum (depending on
experience).
