Applications are invited for the Master Programme "Cognitive Science and
Language", an interuniversity interdisciplinary programme where students
can specialize in one of three areas: Linguistics, Philosophy, or Psychology. 
The universities that participate in the programme are the following:

Universitat Rovira i Virgili (http://www.urv.es)
Universitat de Girona (http://www.udg.edu)

The programme includes courses on language perception, grammar theory,
speech processing, the structure and processing of lexicon, syntactic and
semantic processing, the relation between semantics and cognition, the
logical structure of language, and epistemological foundations of the study
of language. All the courses are taught in English, Catalan, or Spanish,
depending on the students' requirements/abilities. This programme seeks to
provide appropriate interdisciplinary training so that students will be
able to conduct research in all three areas of research. For more detailed

We strongly encourage international students with a deep interest in
linguistics to apply. All students with a specialization in linguistics
will receive an additional training in philosophy and psychology. After an
in-depth training in linguistics, the students will have an opportunity to
proceed with a PhD degree.

The programme in linguistics will include the following courses in the
2009-2010 academic year:

Contrastive Linguistics (UPF)

Corpus Linguistics (UB)
Semantics and interfaces (UAB)
Phonology and interfaces (UAB)
Syntax (UAB)
Computational Morphosyntax (UPF)
Topics in Natural Language Processing (UB)
Topics in Lexical Semantics (URV)

Admission requirements: 

Students who hold an undergraduate degree in Philology, Linguistics,
Philosophy or Psychology may enroll in the second year of the Master
programme. Students with undergraduate degrees in other areas must enroll
in the first year of the programme. Students must register for at least one
basic course of each of the three disciplines comprising the programme. The
full list of courses offered in the year 2008/2009 is available at
http://www.ub.es/ccil/english/cursos.htm. Graduates in Philology,
Linguistics, Philosophy or Psychology will be exempt from registering for
the basic course in their particular field of undergraduate study.

Application: 

There are three pre-registration cycles. The first cycle is already open
with a deadline for pre-registration on April 30, 2009. 
The application should include the following documentation: 
-	a BA diploma (or equivalent)
-	a letter of application stating the interests and motivation of the applicant
-	a CV

More documentation might be required to apply for a grant. Information

page. Students are advised to get in touch with one of the programme
coordinators prior to application.

NB: Some of the grants are offered for a period of four (4) years and cover
both MA and PhD programmes. Note that to apply for the Spanish/Catalan
grants a student is required to have a tutor. For instance, the students
who wish to come to UAB with one of the abovementioned grants must first
get in touch with one of the UAB faculty members involved in the programme
(http://seneca.uab.cat/clt/membres/llista.html). Please check out the
research interests and the projects carried out by the staff members of the
Universities participating in the programme and get in touch with the
person who you would like to work with.
