The Nordic Network for Intercultural Communication (NIC) was founded in 1994 
for the promotion of intercultural research and education in the Nordic and 
Baltic countries. The objectives of NIC are to support active interaction 
between researchers and practitioners leading to information exchange 
concerning higher education and research projects in the Nordic and Baltic 
countries. In addition, NIC supports development of research and training in 
intercultural communication in different locations.

The present activities of NIC include mainly:

-To hold annual conferences on intercultural communication 
-To keep an address list of interested researchers and organizations 
-To maintain an Internet based forum for discussion 

Call for Papers

We hereby invite all interested participants in the 2009 NIC Conference on 
Intercultural Communication (November 26-28) to register using the form below 
or at our website http://nic.hb.se (Registration). You are also invited to send 
abstracts of proposed presentations or workshops, research-in-progress 
presentations and proposals for panels or other activities pertaining to the 
conference to the address indicated below. The main themes suggested for the 
2009 NIC Conference are:

- Intercultural ICT 
- Intercultural Commerce 
- Intercultural Codesign 
- Intercultural Service Provision 

These theme are to be taken in the two senses, the first being the sense of 
studying the actual practice of intercultural communication and the second 
being the sense of studying ICC in different professions and arenas of work. It 
aims to encourage scholars and researchers from different theoretical and 
practical backgrounds to discuss the current issues and prospects of 
intercultural communication (ICC). Emphasis will be placed on views that allow 
for an exchange of ideas and interaction between various practitioners and 
researchers of intercultural communication.

Besides the main theme, the conference committee invites papers that address 
any of the following themes:
- Values in multicultural society 
- ICC and the Internet 
- Political Rhetoric 
- Intercultural Conflict Handling 
- Spoken language and ICC 
- Intercultural Business Communication 
- Educational Aspects of ICC 
- ICC and Nonverbal Communication 
- ICC and Sign-Language 
- Immigration and ICC 
- Managing Cultural diversity 
- Other
