Description:

The Department of English at the Ruhr-University Bochum invites
applications for a half-time position of lecturer at the following quality:
Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben (German public service pay-scale TVL-E 13
or 13/2) starting October 1, 2009

The position is available for a period of 3 years. The contract can be
prolonged for another 3 years. Weekly working time is appr. 20 hours, part
of which will be spent on the successful candidate's further scientific
qualification (in the form of a Ph.D.- or post-doctoral project in English
linguistics). The position can be filled by either a Ph.D. student or by a
post-doctoral researcher. It may be offered as a full-time position for a
period of 2 years to candidates with excellent future research potential.

Responsibilities include academic teaching of 6 hours per week, in
agreement with the department's course offerings in English language and
linguistics (particularly Introduction to Linguistics, Phonetics, and
courses on Varieties of English, Pragmatics, and Discourse Analysis).

The successful candidate will hold an M.A. with a specialisation in English
linguistics and pursue, or intend to pursue, a Ph.D.- or post-doctoral
project in one of the following areas: varieties of English, World
Englishes Studies, multilingualism, or English as a lingua franca.
Candidates must have an excellent knowledge of the English language as well
as of current theories and methods in English linguistics. A working
knowledge of German is required, and teaching experience will be an advantage.
