Description:
Graduate School Position in the Studies of Human Cultures Department
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a tenure
teaching position in the above department. Details relating to the
position, method of application and supporting documents required are given
below.
Location: Human and Cultural Studies Department, Human Sciences Division,
Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences, Hiroshima University.
Position: Professor (tenure position); Japanese nationality or native
speaker of English.
Starting Date: April 1, 2010.
Qualifications: Ph.D. required; teaching and research experience.
Area of Specialization:
General Linguistics, with specialization in one or more of the following
areas; semantics or cognitive linguistics. A background in ESL/TESL is also
essential.
Teaching Duties:
Graduate School; Lexical Semantics, Seminar in Integrated Arts and
Sciences, and Seminar in Language Studies.
Undergraduate School; Cognitive Linguistics, Introduction to Semantics, and
Skill-based English classes (speaking, listening, writing, and reading).
Documents Required:
Curriculum Vitae (including recent photograph); A list of academic
achievements (Please check 5 major works); Twenty publications (Originals
or offprints with a summary in 200 words each are required and must be
included with the application); A one-page statement of teaching
experience; A one-page statement of research interests; Names and addresses
of three persons from whom references may be sought. The documents may be
either in English or Japanese. Applicants are requested to submit all
documents in hard copies and on a CD-ROM.
Additional Qualifications:
The appointee will be required to teach courses at the undergraduate and
graduate levels and to provide M.A. and Ph.D. thesis supervision; A fairly
good command of Japanese in listening, speaking and reading is required but
not necessarily in writing; A Japanese residency is preferred but overseas
applicants will also be considered.
Screening:
An overall screening process takes about 3 months starting from the time of
the deadline for applications. Applicants at the pre-final screening may be
asked to come to Hiroshima University for an interview (at his/her own
expense) and/or send a video clip. Personal data provided by applicants
will be kept confidential and used only for recruitment purposes.
