Meeting Description:

The University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) will host the second Language & 
Linguistics Student Conference on Tuesday, November 7, 2009, on its campus in 
Edmond, Oklahoma.

Sponsored by the student-centered Language Society in collaboration with the UCO Department of English and English Society, the conference will feature undergraduate and graduate student research in the fields of language and linguistics through papers and presentations by students from national and international institutions. In addition to the presentation sessions, a keynote speaker (TBA) will be featured. 

Call for Papers

Submission Deadline: Tuesday, September 15, 2009 
Acceptance Notification: Early October

Abstracts are invited from undergraduate and graduate students for 15-minute presentations including, but not limited to, relationships between and among language, linguistics, and their many applications:

American Sign Language
Natural and artificial languages
Extinct and endangered languages
Speech pathology and hearing sciences
Language and cognition
Theoretical and applied linguistics
Structural, semantic, or phonological analyses
Comparative grammars
Discourse/text analysis
Applications in rhetoric, the arts, and the humanities
Applications in academic, cultural, and sociological constructs

Students who are invited to present will receive with their paid registration a ticket to the conference luncheon, an event t-shirt and tote bag, and access to all conference events, including a keynote lecture by an invited scholar (to be announced).

Presentations may be readings or visual presentations, such as PowerPoint or handouts. No poster presentations will be accepted. Authors must currently be undergraduate or graduate students who are enrolled in at least three credit hours at an accredited college or university or must have graduated with a degree no earlier than December 2008.

Submissions should consist of a titled abstract in MS Word format of no more than 150 words. Please include at the top of the abstract the title of your presentation but no personal identifying information (such as name or institution). Submissions should be sent as an attachment to langconf at gmail.com by the deadline of Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Late submissions are not guaranteed consideration for presentation. Questions regarding abstracts or presentations may be directed to the above address as well.
