Description:

Funding is available for one linguistics graduate student working on an MA or
PhD in linguistics at the University of Florida for two consecutive years
beginning Fall 2010. 

The position is as a student research assistant on the project 'Documentation of
Chimwiini', funded by the NEH through the NSF/NEH Documenting Endangered
Languages program. It will involve collaborating with the project PI on
transcription of linguistic data (narratives, personal histories), preparing
data for archiving, and assisting in other outcomes of the project. A tuition
waiver as well as a stipend for 20/hr per week are included.

The idea candidate would have an MA in Linguistics with an interest in
documentation, and be a native or near-native speaker of Swahili. However, more
general requirements/ preferences are listed below:

Requirements:
-Background in Linguistics
-Some interest in language documentation/endangered languages
-Knowledge of some Bantu language(s), preferably Swahili or a closely related
language

Other preferences:
-Knowledge of ELAN language archiving software
-Basic web-design knowledge
