The conference welcomes papers in the area of Applied Linguistics with special
focus on the 'Teaching and learning of Greek'. 

Call for Paper

The Department of Linguistics, School of Philology, Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki, is pleased to announce its 31st Annual Meeting to be held in
Thessaloniki on April 17-18, 2010. The conference welcomes papers in the area of
Applied Linguistics with special focus on the Teaching and learning of Greek.

High-quality and original papers that broadly fall within the following topics
are invited:
-  Language teaching and learning
-  Bilingual education
-  (First and second/foreign) Language Acquisition and Development
-  Literacy, new literacy and education
-  Approaches to the teaching of grammar
-  Language teaching and (critical) language awareness

Special Thematic Session: Language, education, identity and ideology (with
emphasis on post-modernism)

Those who wish to participate in the 31st Annual Meeting with an oral
presentation or a poster are invited to submit two copies of their abstracts
(one anonymous and one signed) to amgl31-2010 at lit.auth.gr by the 10th of January
2010. Notification of acceptance will be sent by the 20th of February 2010.
Please submit your abstract electronically as a word (or rtf) or pdf file. Any
references to the author(s) should be omitted from the bibliography of the
anonymous file.

Submissions should be in the following format:
Length: 500-700 words (excluding bibliography)
Font: Times New Roman 12pt
Space: single 
Margins: 3 cm all sides
For the signed copy: title, author(s), affiliation, email address (centered)
For the anonymous copy: title (centered)

Please also note that up to 40 oral presentations and 15 posters will be
accepted. Each participant is entitled to submit only one (paper or poster,
single or joined) presentation. When you submit an abstract, please state in the
body of the electronic message whether you wish your submission to be considered
as a paper or as a poster presentation. The presentations may be either in Greek
or in English and they will be 20 minutes long followed by a 10-minute discussion.

The abstracts will be reviewed by two referees.

Pre-conference graduate workshop:
For the first time this year there will be a pre-conference postgraduate
workshop on the 16th of April 2010, in which young researchers (postgraduate and
doctoral students) may present their work in progress. The papers submitted will
be reviewed and twenty of them will be selected for presentation. The papers
accepted for presentation may be submitted for publication in the Proceedings
volume and will be subjected to the standard reviewing procedure.  

Participation fee
Standard fee: 80 ?  
Student fee (for undergraduate and postgraduate students): 35 ? . 
The price includes the conference dinner and the Proceedings of the 31st Annual
Meeting (to be published in 2011).
