Description:

The University of Macau is a government-funded institution located in the
Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. The
Department of Portuguese of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities
has a teaching staff of 30 members, including speakers of both European
Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. The Department offers an undergraduate
degree in Portuguese Studies, concentrating on Portuguese as a Foreign
Language, and with selected disciplines in Interpretation and Translation,
Foreign Language Pedagogy, Literary Studies and History. Also at the
undergraduate level, the Department teaches Portuguese Language within the
Faculty of Law, and offers elective courses in Portuguese as a Foreign
Language to students from all Faculties of the University of Macau. At the
postgraduate level, the Department of Portuguese offers two Masters
programmes (the Masters in Portuguese Language and Culture and the Masters
in Translation Studies), and PhD studies in Portuguese Linguistics. 

The Department of Portuguese invites applications for Full Professor/
Associate Professor in Translation and Interpreting (Chinese-Portuguese) 
(Ref.:FSH/DPORT/TRIN/09/2010)

Qualifications
Applicants must be native speakers of Portuguese or full Portuguese-Chinese
bilinguals, and must hold a PhD degree in the area of translation studies.
A research and publication profile in translation/interpretation of
international merit, practical experience in the translation/interpreting
area and university teaching experience are essential qualifications.
Applicants must also have administration experience at the appropriate
level and demonstrable leadership qualities. Additional qualifications and
experience in the teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign Language will be an
advantage.

Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor must have a distinguished
record of research and publication. Applicants for the rank of Full
Professor must have both a prominent profile of academic involvement and an
outstanding record of publication at an international level. The appointee
will be required to teach courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate
levels, provide postgraduate dissertation supervision and conduct research
in her/his area of specialization. The selected candidate is expected to
assume duty in September 2010.

to the appointee's academic qualifications, current position, and
