ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR POSITION IN THE FIELD OF GENERAL LINGUISTICS, WITH
SPECIALIZATION IN PRAGMATICS

The Department of Language and Communication Studies (ISK) in the Faculty
of Humanities at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
invites applications for a position in the field of General Linguistics,
with specialization in Pragmatics at the Associate Professor level. 

The position is defined as involving 50% research and 50% teaching and
administration. Teaching is at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

ISK has sections for General Linguistics, General Phonetics, Applied
Linguistics, Swahili and Norwegian as Second Language. The section for
General Linguistics currently counts two positions in syntax and semantics
and one in phonology, in addition to the vacant position in pragmatics.

The applicant should have a research background in at least one standard
framework aimed at modeling pragmatic phenomena in linguistic analysis
(such as Relevance Theory, DRT, Speech Act theory, Gricean analysis, or
others), and general familiarity with state-of-the-art frameworks of
Pragmatics. Research interest in interfaces with other areas of language,
communication and cognition are welcome, although not mandatory; likewise,
documented efforts in, or utilization of, computational methods or tools
are welcome, although not a prerequisite.

The position is remunerated according to salary levels 57 to 76 on the
Norwegian State salary scale, with gross salary from NOK 438 700 to NOK 630
400 a year.

evaluation of the applicant's qualifications by the evaluation committee

A description of all the academic work that the applicant feels is most
significant and that he/she feels the evaluation committee should pay
particular attention to.
A list of all publications with bibliographical references. 
Joint work will be evaluated. If it is difficult to identify the
contributions from individuals in a joint piece of work, applicants should
enclose a short descriptive summary of what he/she contributed to the work.
