Description:

Our growing Department seeks a talented and ambitious Professor/Reader in
Clinical Language Sciences who will enhance our strengths in Speech and
Language development and disorders across the lifespan. 

The post replaces the soon-to-retire Head of Clinical Language Sciences.
This senior level appointment is intended to help develop further our
research strengths in clinical language sciences, to make an outstanding
contribution to the department's research publications, and to provide
leadership in the generation of research funding, in the teaching
activities of the department, and in the support of junior staff,
postgraduate, and undergraduate students, whilst undertaking teaching and
administration duties at an appropriate level. The post is strategically
important and will link with the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience &
Neurodynamics (CINN), which undertakes interdisciplinary research into the
psychological and physiological mechanisms underpinning complex cognitive
behaviours, targeting typical and atypical development and decline. 

The Department of Clinical Language Sciences has a wide range of research
interests within the field of speech and language development and disorders
across the lifespan. Recent research has focused on characterising
development and disorders, developing assessments for children and adults
and designing clinical interventions. According to the Research Assessment
Exercise (RAE) published in December 2008, the quality of 85% of our
research activity was considered to be internationally recognised with 10%
of this being assessed as 'world-leading'. 

The successful candidate is expected to: 

- engage in high quality research and make a significant contribution to
the Department's publication profile; 

- provide research leadership and foster research culture within the
Department and School through mentoring junior staff; 

- provide leadership in developing applications for external funding and
collaborate with staff within the Department/School on major research
projects; 

- develop research links with other researchers in the Department, School,
and across the University, for example with the newly-established Centre
for Integrated Neurosciences and Neurodynamics (CINN); 

- contribute to the Department's undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; 

- supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Department; 

- contribute towards department administrative tasks and, where
appropriate, Chair committees of the School, Faculty, University.
