On the occasion of World Philosophy Day in Russia proclaimed by UNESCO for 2009,
the St. Petersburg Department of V.A. Steklov Mathematical Institute (PDMI) of
the Russian Academy of Sciences announces the Conference 'Philosophy,
Mathematics, Linguistics: Aspects of Interaction' and the associated Workshop
'Number Words: Syntax, Semantics, Logic'. Organized in collaboration with
Faculty of Philosophy of St. Petersburg State University, IHPST/Chaire
d'Excellence 'Ontological Structure and Semantics Structure', Arché-St.Andrews -
the Philosophical Research Centre for Logic, Language, Metaphysics and
Epistemology, and the CSMN - the Centre for the Study of Mind in Nature, the
Conference will be held on November 19-22, and the pre-conference Workshop will

interdisciplinary dialogue between mathematicians, logicians, philosophers,
computer scientists and linguists.

Call for Papers

The St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Mathematical Institute solicits papers
for the International Interdisciplinary Conference "Philosophy, Mathematics,
Linguistics: Aspects of Interaction", to be held on November 19-22, 2009. We
invite to submit extended abstracts of papers relating to Philosophy Mathematics
Linguistics interplay for presentation at the Conference. Each paper will be
allotted 20 min for presentation + 5 min for discussion. Papers from any

- Logic and foundations of mathematics;
- Ontology of mathematics and the nature of mathematical truth;
- The problem of abstract entities in mathematics, philosophy and linguistics;
- The mathematical concept of a function: from the notions of mapping,
transformation towards the notion of an algorithm;
