Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Calgary is seeking to
fill TWO 9 month limited term positions beginning on August 1st, 2010.
Applicants should have a specialization in phonological theory and an
ability to teach an introductory level course in semantics or first
language acquisition OR a specialization in generative syntax and an
ability to teach an introductory level course in semantics or first
language acquisition.

Duties:  

PHONOLOGY - Teaching duties will consist of two courses per semester for
two semesters, and may include courses in phonological theory, first
language acquisition, semantics, introduction to linguistics or other
courses based on area of expertise.  

SYNTAX - Teaching duties will consist of two courses per semester for two
semesters, and will include courses in syntax at both the undergraduate and
graduate level as well as an undergraduate course in semantics or first
language acquisition.

There will also be a small service load and the opportunity to work with
graduate students who are writing MA theses and PhD candidacy papers and
dissertations. Additional teaching for additional remuneration may be
available in the spring and summer terms (May-August). The University of
Calgary is a research-intensive institution, and the instructor will have
the opportunity to continue his or her research program while meeting other
responsibilities of this position.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Linguistics. Preference
will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience and expertise in
teaching in the areas of phonological theory and semantics or first
language acquisition.
