Department: CASTL
Job Location: Tromsø, Norway
Web Address: http://castl.uit.no/

Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Morphology; Syntax

Description:

The Center for Advanced Study in Theoretical Linguistics (CASTL) at the
University of Tromsø currently seeks a post-doctoral research fellow in
theoretical syntax and morphology. The successful candidate will be
expected to work in a systematic fine-grained investigation of the
morphological and syntactic properties of nominals across a representative
sample of Bantu languages. The period of appointment is 3 years.

CASTL is a Norwegian Center of Excellence funded by the Research Council of
Norway and the University of Tromsø. CASTL's primary research activity is
within generative grammar with a focus on syntax, phonology, and language
acquisition. This postdoc position is integrated in the project
"Morphosyntax of Bantu Nouns" run by Knut Tarald Taraldsen and Michal
Starke. The successful candidate will have a research record in theoretical
syntax and morphology, and familiarity with the nanosyntactic framework
will be regarded as an advantage. Everything else being equal, precedence
will be given to candidates with research experience in Bantu linguistics.
Native speaker competency in a Bantu language will also be considered an
advantage.

The prerequisite for appointment in the position of post-doctoral research
fellow is a doctoral degree, either a Norwegian PhD in linguistics or an
equivalent foreign doctoral degree.

Applications must be accompanied by a research proposal, including a work
schedule. Appointments are made on the understanding that the research
project will be completed within the contract term.

After employment a plan will be drawn up showing how the research project
is to be implemented. This plan will be part of the employment contract for
the fixed term and shall cover the project description and work schedule.
The plan shall also state the amount of potential teaching or equivalent
work for The University of Tromsø required. The plan shall also state who
is responsible for providing academic supervision.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The main emphasis
will be placed on assessment of the submitted scholarly works and the
research proposal.

How to apply:
The application is to be submitted electronically on the application form
available at 'Apply for this job' at application URL below.

In addition, applicants should send 4 copies of the following: the
application, a research proposal including a work schedule, a CV, certified
copies of diplomas, references and a list of scholarly works to the address
below.

All documentation that is to be evaluated must be certified and translated
into English or a Scandinavian language.

THE SCHOLARLY WORKS - published or unpublished - that should be taken into
consideration during the evaluation process must be submitted in 3 copies
arranged as 3 complete sets. The scholarly works should be sent directly,
within the closing date for applications, to the address below.

Submissions must be postmarked within the application deadline. Both
shipments and the application must be marked with the reference number:
2010/2361
