panel.

Call for Papers

1.) General Information and Special Features:
The Jan 2011 SPCL Winter Conference promises to be very interesting with
distinguished Professor Salikoko S. Mufwene delivering the keynote
address and Professor Silvia Kouwenberg co-ordinating a special session
looking at the future of Pidgin and Creole studies.

Abstracts for 20-minute papers and for posters on the phonology,
morphology, syntax, semantics, lexicon, social aspects of language, history
of the discipline, education or any pertinent issue involving pidgin and
Creole languages or other contact languages are invited, beginning 1st
June, 2010, for anonymous review by a five member panel.

2.) Conditions:
Any member may submit one single-author abstract. There is not a limit on
the number of coauthored abstracts. After an abstract has been submitted,
changes of author, affiliation, title, or wording of the abstract, other than
those due to typographical errors, will not normally be permitted. Papers
must be delivered substantially as indicated in the abstract or represent
bona fide developments of the same research. The submitting author must
be a member of the Society for Pidgin and Creole Linguistics.

3.) Word limit:
An abstract (including examples, if needed) must be no more than 500
words. Abstracts must be no more than one 8 1/2 inch by 11 inch page in
length, in type no smaller than 10 point and preferably 12 point; margins
should be at least .5 inches on all sides. References may be included on a
second page. Abstracts exceeding the word or page length limit or in type
smaller than 10 point will be rejected without being evaluated. Please note
the word count at the bottom of the abstract. Except for the instructions
given here and below, no special form or format is needed for this initial
submission of the abstract (as specified in 5 below, a shorter abstract will be
requested at a later date from authors of accepted papers).

4.) Title:
At the top of the abstract, put the title.

5.) Omit your name from abstract:
Do not put your name on the attached abstract. If you identify yourself in
any way on the abstract (e.g. 'In Brown (2001)...I'), the abstract will be
rejected without being evaluated. Your name should be only on the abstract
submittal form or e-mail message cover page.

6.) Special fonts:
If your abstract uses any special fonts, please send (alongside Word
document) a PDF file, or a paper copy to the address shown below (same
deadline), as special fonts may not transmit accurately. Indicate at the
bottom of your e-mail if a hardcopy has been mailed. You may choose to
send your special fonts file via attachment.

7.) Handbook abstract:
A shorter abstract, intended for publication in the LSA Annual Meeting
Handbook, will be requested at a later date from all authors of accepted
papers. Specific instructions for the transmittal of this abstract will be
included in the acceptance letter.

8.) Sample abstract:
A sample abstract outline is given towards the bottom of this message.

9.) Submission of abstracts through Easy Abstracts:
Submission is open from June 1 to [July 30, 2010] EXTENDED to AUGUST
8, 2010. Copy and paste the following SPCL 2011 Easy Abstracts url into
your browser: linguistlist.org/confcustom/SPCL2011

10.) Step by step instructions to follow:
Please indicate whether you prefer to present your paper as a poster or as
a short presentation (please do not select any of the other presentation
options unless you were invited to do so). Select 'Submit'

If and only if you are unable to access Easy Abstracts, abstracts may be
