Meeting Description:

The 14th edition of BWTL/ABLT will take place in Toronto. Whether we are
choosing an instrument for phonetic analysis, determining the chronology of 
a linguistic change, distinguishing between elicited and spontaneous data in
language acquisition, or collecting the necessary facts for a syntactic
analysis, we often encounter methodological problems in our theoretical
research. The aim of this year's workshop is to present, discuss, and offer
solutions to these methodological problems.

La 14ème édition de BWTL/ABLT aura lieu à Toronto. Que ce soit dans le 
choix d'un instrument d'analyse phonétique, dans la détermination de la 
chronologie d'un changement linguistique, dans la distinction entre données 
élicitées et spontanées en acquisition du langage ou dans le recueil de 
données pertinentes pour l'analyse syntaxique, des problèmes 
méthodologiques se présentent régulièrement dans nos recherches 
théoriques. Le but de l'atelier cette année est de présenter, discuter et offrir 
des solutions à ces problèmes méthodologiques.

THEME: Methodological issues in theoretical linguistics

In the spirit of the previous BWTL/ABLT workshops, presentations should 
be based on works-in-progress ONLY (theoretical problems, research 
questions, problematic data, new facts, good [or bad] ideas, etc.). Each 
presentation will be 10 minutes + 5 minutes for questions. Please submit a 
title and two copies of a short (200-word maximum) abstract - one 
anonymous and the other with the name(s) and affilation of the author(s) - 
by e-mail to: BWTL14 at gmail.com. Students are strongly encouraged to 
participate. As in previous years, the final format of the workshop will be 
decided upon based on the number and types of submissions received. If 
appropriate, presentations will be grouped and followed by a longer 
discussion period.

Deadline for Submissions: October 18, 2010 (date of notification: November 
1, 2010)

[ou mauvaises] idées, etc.). Les présentations ne devraient pas dépasser 
10 minutes + 5 minutes pour les questions. Veuillez soumettre par courriel 
un titre et un court résumé anonyme (de 200 mots au maximum) en deux 
exemplaires, un anonyme et un autre comportant le nom de l'auteur ou des 
auteurs et une affiliation à l'adresse suivante : BWTL14 at gmail.com. Les 
étudiant(e)s sont particulièrement encouragé(e)s à soumettre un résumé. 
Comme les années précédentes, le format final de l'atelier sera déterminé 
en fonction de la nature et du nombre des résumés reçus. Si possible, les 
présentations seront regroupées et suivies d'une période plus longue de 
discussion.

Date limite pour les soumissions : le 18 octobre 2010 (date de notification: 
le 1 novembre 2010)
