Meeting Description:

The Interpersonal Communication and Social Interaction (ICSI) Section 2011 Conference of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) will be hosted by the School of Communication, University of Ulster. 

Conference Dates: 8 - 9 September 2011

Conference venue: Belfast, Northern Ireland

Within ECREA, every other year there is a large Conference at which all Sections participate. In the intervening year each Section holds its own event. This biennial Conference is therefore the major event of the ICSI Section of ECREA. Each year the Conference is held in a different location in Europe. In 2011 the Conference will be in the historic city of Belfast.

Target participants: Scholars and postgraduate students of interpersonal communication and social interaction. Research students are encouraged and supported to take advantage of the formal and informal mentoring opportunities afforded by participation in the Conference and other activities of the Section.

The Conference provides members with valuable professional development opportunities, including networking and presentation, and learning about the latest trends in interpersonal communication and social interaction research, teaching and learning. The Conference also provides an important occasion for recognising the achievements and contributions of members in the field.

The keynote speakers are:
 
Professor Peter Schulz (Institute of Communication and Health, University of Lugano, Switzerland)
Professor Monica Whitty (Department of Media and Communication, University of Leicester, England) 

Call for Papers:

ECREA's ICSI section now welcomes the submission of original proposals for unpublished papers on one of the following themes: 

-Face-to-face relationships
-Mediated contexts
-Conflict situations
-Organisational and professional contexts
-Health and care contexts
-Intercultural contexts
-Language and social interaction 

Anyone wishing to propose a paper for consideration should submit an abstract in English to the planning committee by sending an e-mail attachment to icsiabstracts at ulster.ac.uk  before 31 March 2011. Notification of acceptance will be sent by 31 May 2011. 

Format of abstracts:

Abstracts (c. 300 words excluding any reference list) should be prepared for blind refereeing as a Word file. 

Select one of the conference themes and cite this before the title of your paper. Include your surname and ICSI abstract in the subject entry of your email message. No name or designation should appear on the abstract. 

When submitting your abstract, include on a separate page the following contact details:
