Meeting Description:

Italian Linguistics in the UK: Traditions, Challenges, Perspectives.
Department of Italian Studies, University of Reading.

Call for Papers

Italian linguistics has recently been reintroduced at the University of Reading
with the appointment of a permanent lecturer, and it is again one of the core
disciplines in the Department of Italian Studies, at both undergraduate and
postgraduate level. Italian at Reading is keen to develop collaborative links
with scholars in the field of Italian linguistics, and with teachers of Italian
language and culture throughout the UK. To this end, the Department of Italian
Studies is organizing a one-day meeting aimed at bringing together scholars and
researchers in Italian linguistics who carry out their work predominantly in the
UK, and professionals who benefit from the teaching of Italian linguistics in
higher education.

The meeting is an opportunity for established academics and young researchers
from all over the UK to present their latest research in the various areas of
Italian linguistics, and for professionals to share their experience regarding
the importance of teaching Italian linguistics at academic level. The
interchange between both aspects of Italian linguistics, namely, academic and
professional, has the ultimate goal of fostering an interdisciplinary dialogue,
and of developing into long-lasting and fruitful collaborations.

Authors are invited to submit papers reflecting their current research in one of
the areas of Italian linguistics (e.g., syntax, morphology, semantics,
semiotics, phonology, dialectology, and history of the Italian language). In
addition, a special session of the meeting will be devoted to papers on methods
and techniques for teaching Italian linguistics at academic level. All papers
will include a 20-minute talk and a 10-minute discussion. Abstracts should be a
maximum of 300 words and one page in length (including examples and
bibliography). Abstracts should be sent to Dr. Federico Faloppa at
f.faloppa at reading.ac.uk no later than 31st March 2010. Authors will receive
notification by 14th April 2010.

Registration:
Those interested in attending the meeting, whether presenting a paper or not,
should register by sending an email to Chiara Ciarlo at c.ciarlo at reading.ac.uk
by 15th May 2010. There are no registration fees.
