non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international

POSTDOCTORAL TEACHING FELLOW
DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS
UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

The Department of Linguistics at the University of British Columbia invites
applications for a possible position for a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow,
contingent on funding, to begin 1 July 2010. This position enables innovative
and collaborative teaching between the Fellow and outstanding UBC
professors. This is part of a UBC and Faculty of Arts program to help launch
the careers of new scholars showing early promise as excellent university
teachers and researchers. The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow will have
opportunities to interact with UBC colleagues on teaching and research, as
well as to be part of a cohort of early-career scholars sharing methods and
exchanging ideas for excellent teaching.

One of the Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow positions may be located within the
UBC Department of Linguistics. As well as its strengths in phonetics,
phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, first language acquisition,
psycholinguistics, and field linguistics, the UBC Department of Linguistics
has a commitment to the theoretically informed study and documentation of
First Nations (indigenous) languages. (See http://www.linguistics.ubc.ca/).
Applications from outstanding applicants in any area of specialization in
linguistics are welcome.

The Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow will be appointed for one year, beginning
July 1, 2010. Applicants will normally be within 3 years of being awarded the
PhD. The successful candidate will teach three single-semester
undergraduate courses per year under the supervision of an experienced
professor. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Applicants should submit hard copies of a letter of application, a statement of
teaching philosophy and interests, evidence of teaching potential, a sample
of written work, and a C.V. to:
