We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

I have recently had a PhD proposal accepted, focusing on the
relationship between spoken and written grammar during the
secondary phase of the British Curriculum.

Though the PhD does not begin until October, I am keen to start work
immediately. To this end, I am looking to get a firm grasp of the current
research literature on this subject, and felt The LINGUIST List to be a
good source for this information. Specifically, I am interested in any
literature:
- analyzing the relationship between spoken and written grammar
- analyzing the syntactic patterns of developing writers
- dealing with corpus-based analysis and which supplies detailed
information regarding the coding frames used.

I am also interested as to whether any grammatical frameworks (e.g.
HPSG, Word Grammar, Functional Grammar) have made writing
development a particular focus.

Any sources or references will be gratefully received and I will, of
course, post a summary of all the information sent my way.

Kind regards,
Mark Brenchley
