New Journal 'Language, Interaction and Acquisition / Langage, Interaction et Acquisition'
(LIA) is now published by John Benjamins

LIA is a bilingual English-French journal that publishes original theoretical and empirical 
research of high scientific quality at the forefront of current debates concerning language 
acquisition. It covers all facets of language acquisition among different types of learners and 
in diverse learning situations, with particular attention to oral speech and/or to signed 
languages. Topics include the acquisition of one or more foreign languages, of one or more 
first languages, and of sign languages, as well as learners' use of gestures during speech; the 
relationship between language and cognition during acquisition; bilingualism and situations 
of linguistic contact - for example pidginisation and creolisation. 

LIA is the direct descendant of the French-speaking journal AILE Acquisition et Interaction 
en Langue Etrangère. From 2008 on, after the brutal and premature disappearance of Aile 's 
founding father, Clive Perdue, a smooth transition to the new journal was first established 
during the year 2009 with the publication of two numbers under the name AILE...LIA. The 
bilingual nature of LIA aims at reaching readership in a wide international community, 
while simultaneously continuing to attract intellectual and linguistic resources stemming 
from multiple scientific traditions in Europe, thereby remaining faithful to its original 
French anchoring. It will be up to the editorial team to ensure that both languages are well 
represented from year to year. 

As of 2010 LIA will appear twice a year with John Benjamins Publishing. LIA publishes 
thematic issues, edited by one or more coordinators that are submitted either spontaneously 
or in response to large calls that will be open for the international community. Before 
publication all articles are blind-reviewed by two or more referees. Articles within each 
number can be in French or in English and are accompanied by abstracts in both languages.
Different topics within the domain of language acquisition will rotate as much as possible 
between first and second language acquisition, as well as between speech and sign languages 
or gestures. Some issues may also touch on the interrelations among these areas and/or on 
topics that cut across all of them. LIA  also proposes two other entries for shorter 
publications:  reviews of recently published books and critical articles and replies.  

LIA is addressed to all researchers and advanced students concerned with diverse situations 
of language acquisition. It is organized in such a way as to represent as widely as possible a 
great variety of topics in this vast research area. It is edited by a committee composed of 
three Editors, Maya Hickmann a (Chief-Editor), Daniel Véronique, and Marianne Gullberg,
assisted by three co-Editors: Dominique Bassano, Sandra Benazzo, and Marion Blondel. 
This team regularly consults two boards, an Editorial Board and an Advisory Board, 
comprising some of the most prestigious members of the community in the domain of 
language acquisition.
