Description:

The University of Notre Dame's Center for Asian Studies (CAS) and Center
for the Study of Languages and Cultures (CSLC) invite applications for a
project coordinator who works in a discipline emphasizing Chinese,
Japanese, and/or Korean area studies from a humanities or educational
perspective to fill the 2-year grant-funded position of East Asian Studies
(EAS) project coordinator. We are searching for a project coordinator with
competence in one or more of these cultures and languages, who also has
experience with project coordination as well as curricular and pedagogical

an East Asian language are required. Candidates may have, for example, an
M.A. in Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, East Asian Area
Studies, Foreign Language, or Foreign Language Education with expertise in
Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean. ABDs are encouraged to apply.

The EAS coordinator's primary responsibility will be to help coordinate key
components of the project 'A New Paradigm for Asian Studies at ND:
Innovation, Integration, and Distinction,' funded by the Undergraduate
International Studies and Foreign Language (UISFL) program of the US
Department of Education. The coordinator will assist the project
co-directors, faculty steering committee, and participating units during
the project's implementation. This position has the potential to make a
significant impact on the growing Asian Studies programs at the University,
and an ongoing appointment may be considered at the end of the initial
two-year term.

The successful candidate will be an energetic self-starter with a
combination of academic experience and program coordination, project
management, or administrative experience, preferably in a university
setting. S/he will have demonstrated the ability to take initiative,
exercise independent judgment, handle multiple tasks and deadlines, and
work collaboratively and effectively with different constituencies.
Outstanding organizational and leadership skills are essential. Excellent
oral and written communication skills, and strong cross-cultural and
interpersonal communication skills are a must. The ideal candidate is an
individual who exceeds the minimum qualifications and brings a combination
of exceptional talent, skills, training, and experience to this important
position.

Salary range: $35,000-$40,000, depending on qualifications and experience,
for a 10-month full-time appointment.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the
position is filled. If you are interested in learning more about this
position, please contact the CSLC Director, Dr. Lance R. Askildson, contact
information below. Candidates should send a letter of application, CV, and
three professional references to the application address below. The

an equal opportunity employer.
