Linguistic Field(s): Discipline of Linguistics; General Linguistics

Call Deadline: 25-Feb-2010

Meeting Description:

The Purdue Linguistics Association Student Symposium 2010 endeavors to provide
undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctorate researchers from various linguistic
fields opportunities to interact with those both inside and outside their
respective disciplines. The special session for this year's symposium will focus
on topics in language diversity, and in addition to the Saturday paper sessions,
we will also host workshops Friday, April 16 on disciplines in linguistics.

Special Session: Language Diversity
What can language diversity reveal about the universal human capacity for
language? What are issues that arise in field research when multiple languages
and cultures meet? How does language documentation of relatively unknown
languages contribute to theoretical frameworks? The special session aims to
address some of these questions from theoretical and experimental viewpoints. We
are especially interested in hearing papers on a variety of linguistic
sub-fields on the topic of language diversity and less commonly known languages.

The special session will be followed by a general discussion.

General Session: We invite submissions for abstracts for 20-minute presentations
in any area related to linguistics, including, but not limited to:
- Phonetics
- Phonology
- Syntax
- Semantics

- Pragmatics
- Psycholinguistics
- Historical Linguistics
