The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

Early Stage Researcher positions at MPI

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (MPI) invites applications
for two Early Stage Researcher (ESR) positions as research scholars (PhD)
in language technology (linguistic infrastructures, interoperability,
standards and semantic web).

The 3-year positions involve participation in the EU project CLARA - Common
Language Resources and their Applications, which is a Marie Curie Initial
Training Network receiving funding from the European Commission's
7thFramework Programme (cf. http://clara.uib.no/;
http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/).

The specific positions involve participation in the CLARA subproject
Designing and Testing Common Infrastructures, which is lead by the MPI. The
overall aim of the subproject is the design of the next generation of
common language resource infrastructures and its advanced components on
which future linguistic research will be based.

The successful candidates will be offered enrollment in a PhD program at a
related university. The candidates will be given joint PhD supervision by
the MPI and academic staff at the related university.

Applicants should hold a strong university degree (Masters/diploma or
equivalent) which would entitle them to embark on a PhD project in a
relevant discipline, and should be in the first four years of their
research careers. Students who are completing their master's degree during
the current semester, with the intention of starting the doctoral position
in the spring semester 2010, are also invited to apply. The qualifying
education must be completed before enrolment in the PhD programme. We
expect successful applicants to take up their ESR positions in
spring/summer 2010. The salary of an ESR position is roughly EUR 34,000 per
year. The income is taxable and all compulsory deductions under national
law will be made. There are additional mobility and travel allowances
(yearly allowance). There is a budget to cover participation costs, such as
attendance at CLARA events abroad.

Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

For further information about the available positions (including salary
enquiries) and project, please contact Thomas Koller at the email address
below.

Before applying for one of these positions, please read thoroughly the full
call at http://clara.uib.no/vacancies/two-esr-vacancies-at-mpi/
