The Year's Work in Modern Language Studies (YWMLS) is an annual critical
bibliography of scholarly work in Romance, Celtic, Germanic and Slavonic
studies, and is published by Maney Publishing on behalf of the Modern
Humanities Research Association. Each volume includes a survey of French
Studies: Language and Linguistics, compiled since 2008 by Paul Rowlett
(University of Salford, UK).

The purpose of YWMLS is to give a critical survey of published work in the
field. It is not intended to be a mere catalogue of titles, but the demands
of space mean that only rarely can more than a few lines be devoted to any
one work, and the limited availability of some works sometimes prevents the
inclusion of anything more than basic publication details. Work on language
teaching and applied linguistics is outside the scope of YWMLS, as are
dictionaries unless they make important contributions to lexicography.
Doctoral theses, bibliographies and preprints available on personal
websites are similarly excluded.

Volume 79 of YWMLS, surveying the work of 2008, appeared earlier this year,
and volume 80, covering 2009, is currently in production. Preliminary
versions of the 2008 and 2009 surveys of French language and linguistics
are available for free download from usir.salford.ac.uk/2752 and
usir.salford.ac.uk/8664 respectively.

In order to help ensure that the survey of French language and linguistics
is as comprehensive as possible, authors of published works which fall
within the scope of YWMLS are invited to forward either a hard copy to Dr
Paul Rowlett, School of Languages, University of Salford, Salford M5 4WT,
United Kingdom or a .pdf file to P.A.Rowlett at salford.ac.uk.
