Meeting Description:

Following the success of the 1st ESP in Asia Conference held at Chongqing
University, China, in October 2009, we are pleased to announce that the
2nd ESP in Asia Conference will be held at the University of Nottingham
Ningbo China, from 11th to 13th November 2010.

The theme of the conference is 'Engaging Ecologies, Evolving
Empowerment'. As ESP grows in Asia, it needs to evolve practices that
engage the ecologies in which it operates. Such ecologies include, on the
one hand, sociolinguistic realities such as multilingualism and variation in
global English(es), and, on the other hand, variable professional and
academic cultures and practices in Asia. The conference theme seeks to
capture the notion that through engaging these ecologies, ESP may evolve
more empowering paradigms, both for individuals and for institutions.

Call For Papers

Extended Deadline

We invite papers and workshop proposals on all aspects of ESP, from
researchers, teachers, training consultants and industry professionals. In
line with the theme, we would particularly encourage papers on the
following:
- English in specialized domains in ESL/EFL contexts
- English in the professions in multilingual & multicultural contexts
- ESP/EAP within a World Englishes paradigm
- Sociolinguistics of work
- Pedagogical innovations in ESP/EAP
- The Asian context: challenges and rewards
- EAP within academics, for academics, and by academics
- Identity and ELT

Abstracts for papers should be no more than 300 words in length, including
references. They may be in either English or Chinese. They may be
submitted via LinguistList, at
http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/ESPinAsia2010, where they will undergo a
blind review process.

Proposals for workshops may also be made via LinguistList. Please include
a general overview of the topic and approach.

Detailed information can be found at the conference website,
http://www.nottingham.edu.cn/conference/esp/. Inquiries may be sent to
Benedict Lin, Douglas Bell, or Derek Irwin at
